One way to help restaurants, even those that might be temporarily closed, is by purchasing their merchandise. Gift cards may only act

New York’s small businesses are facing an existential threat from the novel coronavirus. Center for Urban Future asked two dozen small business owners and small business experts for recommendations on how city and state policymakers can help them survive this crisis.

"We're doing it in two-week intervals because every day is a new day, and we'll see what happens day-to-day, but I think it's not even questionable today that we're going to need two more weeks," Cuomo said Sunday.

More than 59,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in New York State as of Sunday, state health officials said. Of those cases, 965 people have died, up from 728 the day before. More than 8,500 people are currently in the hospital for coronavirus in the state. The vast majority of the state's cases are located in New York City, which has reported 32,308 cases and 678 deaths.

People have reported being coughed at or spit on and being told to leave stores, Uber and Lyft drivers refusing to pick them up, verbal and online harassment and physical assault, according to the site, which was launched by the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON) and Chinese for Affirmative Action.

But [Lien-teh] Wu’s mask won out because in empirical testing, it protected users from bacteria. According to Lynteris, it was also a great design. It could be constructed by hand out of materials that were cheap and in ready supply. Between January and February of 1911, mask production ramped up to unknown numbers. Medical staff wore them, soldiers wore them, and some everyday people wore them, too. Not only did that help thwart the spread of the plague; the masks became a symbol of modern medical science looking an epidemic right in the eye.
